IVN's Social Entrepreneur Fellowship Program, together with its strategic partners, the New Israel Fund and the Sacta-Rashi Foundation, is delighted to announce this year's winners of IVN's Social Entrepreneur ("SE") Fellowships for 2007-2007.
The winners are Asher Elias for his 'Tech Careers: Computer Programming Training Center for Ethiopian Israelis' and Dana Weinberg for 'Women and their Bodies.'
Tech Careers enables Ethiopian Israelis to enter the Israeli high tech work force and earn far higher salaries by training them, providing job placement services and accompanying them in the work force to guarantee job satisfaction. Asher was born in Israel to Ethiopian parents, pioneers of the emigration from Ethiopia in the early sixties.
Asher will be mentored by Dr. Yuval Carmon, CEO of Calanit Carmon, the leading Israeli provider of information technology and outsourced services. Yuval himself is one of the leading Israeli executives in the areas of business development and management.
Women and their Bodies is a unique multicultural, multi-professional non-profit organization of women in Israel, Jewish, Arab and Palestinian, who have made it their mission to work towards empowering women to become self-health advocates who can protect and promote their own health. It is based on "Our Bodies, Ourselves" founded in Boston, that went on to inspire a world-wide movement of women's health; and aims to galvanize and energize any nascent women's health movements here in the region.
Isabel Maxwell, Chair of IVN's Social Entrepreneur Fellowship Program, said, "This year has been an inspiring and banner year for social entrepreneuring with the awarding of the Nobel Prize for Peace to Muhammad Yunis from Bangladesh - THE quintessential social entrepreneur - and we are delighted to welcome these new exceptional individuals to our program. Their projects are important and we believe they will have a strong and positive impact on society in Israel and beyond in the years to come."
